    Week of July 1-7

    Hi Blue Crabs!

We had a fantastic time at this week’s meet versus Landsdale! We came away with another win (338 to 300) and we held our first ever Master’s Relay! Thank you to Linda Amato for coordinating it and thank you to all the adults who participated.

A summer swim team takes a Village and we have a great one. Thank you to all of our coaches, swimmers, volunteers, and spectators who made yesterday such a fun party in the USA!

You can view the complete results here and view photos from the meet here (these are also available by clicking “Meets & Events” in our website menu). Special thanks to Jen Biryukov and Kerry Douty for the pictures!

This post contains a list of Shout-Outs, a link to download our team photo, an amazing opportunity, information about our upcoming Mighty Mini Meet, and details about our practice schedule for this week. Please note, there is no meet on Saturday.

    SHOUT-OUTS

The Blue Crabs showed UP for this meet! We piled up a total of 169 personal bests spread across 95 different swimmers (see the full list here), and five Blue Crabs finished in 1st place in all four of their individual events (Matix Garmon, Amir Hussein, Kyleigh Kauflin, Alberto Nevares, and Carmen Nevares). Way to go!

There were a total of 19 team records set, with a special shout-out going out for Collins Wright who added her name to the team record board in 8 & under 25-meter breastroke (view all our team records here).

But, wait, there’s more! In our inaugural season we had 14 swimmers qualify for the FSSL All-Star Meet. Through our first three meets this year, we are now up to a grand total of 25 swimmers who have hit all-star times! New swimmers who qualified for the all-star meet this week are Axel Blossom (50 free), Sumi Devineni (25 back), Miles Thomas (25 free), and Collins Wright (25 breast). You can see a full list of all our all-star swimmers here. Congratulations!

Our Shout-Out section would not be complete without some shout-outs to a few of our volunteers. It is easy to go through a meet without noticing all the work that goes into it and the vital part that so many people play to make it all happen. Sam & Pilar Nevares (IT) and Andy Garmon (Starter) are simply the best when it comes to running an efficient swim meet. However, we wouldn’t have swimmers at the blocks if it wasn’t for our clerk of course, and this week Sarah Brandt did an outstanding job in getting

swimmers where they needed to be when we needed them. Lastly, it’s hard not to once again thank the Crab Daddies and all of our wonderful concession volunteers, with a special shout-out going to Greg Blake who not only ran the Crab Shack, cooking breakfast for many of us, but he also swam the anchor leg for the winning team in our Master's Relay! Y’all are the best. THANK YOU!

    AN INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY

Many of us know firsthand the challenges and expenses associated with raising and taking care of children, especially when it comes to their TEETH. However, one of our amazing sponsors wants to provide one Blue Crabs family with an incredible opportunity.

Urbana Orthodontics has donated one Complimentary Orthodontic Treatment to the team and would love to see us raffle it off to one of our families. To be clear, this is not just a complimentary office visit; this is a complimentary orthodontic treatment, meaning if your child needs or will need Invisalign or a traditional appliance (like braces or a fixed expander) this will cover the diagnostic records, the first or the second phase of the orthodontic treatment and one set of retainers! This really is an incredible opportunity! Thank you, Dr. McTavish!

Some of the fine print to be aware of: while this award is transferable within your immediate family, it must begin between 7/15/2024 and 01/01/2027. And, no, that’s not a typo: treatment must begin before January 1, 2027.

If you are interested in participating in this raffle, or if you just want to support the Blue Crabs, you can enter to win this orthodontic treatment by purchasing raffle tickets in our merchandise store here. Tickets will be available for purchase for $5/ea until July 18 and there is no limit on the number of tickets you can purchase. The more tickets you purchase, the more chances you have to win, and the more you support the Blue Crabs. We will select the winner at our end of season party on July 21.

    THE MIGHTY MINI MEET

The Mighty Mini Meet will take place on Thursday, July 11 from 5:00-7:00 PM (there will be no practices this day). This meet is for swimmers—both Blue Crabs and Mini Crabs—8 and under. This will give our younger Blue Crab swimmers an opportunity to try out some different events, and our Mini Crab swimmers an opportunity to make their way across the pool with a kickboard or with the help of a coach. Additional details and information on signing up for this fun event will be sent in a separate email.

We will need volunteers for this event, and we highly recommend that Mini Crab parents take advantage of the opportunity to be a part of the summer swim experience. You can sign-up for a volunteer job here.
