When is Registration?
Registration is currently open for all returning swimmers (your family swam on the Blue Crabs or Mini Crabs in 2024) who are current residents of the Villages of Urbana.
Returning swimmers will be emailed a link on Tuesday, April 1 at approximately 6am. If you did not receive this link and believe you should have, please send an email to [email protected].
Registration will open to swimmers new to the Blue Crabs at 6am on April 15.
How much is Registration?
The registration fee will be $180 for a family's first swimmer.
There is a sibling discount of $10 for each additional swimmer in a family.
Registration includes a team T-Shirt.
What do I need to know to register my swimmer(s)?
If you are a returning family, please register using the link emailed to you on Tuesday, April 1, and login to your Swimtopia account for registration.
When registering your swimmer(s), you will be prompted to select a swim group for each swimmer, either "Blue Crabs" or "Mini Crabs."
What are the requirements to be a Blue Crabs swimmer?
To be a Blue Crab a swimmer should be between the ages of 4 and 18 (as of June 1, 2025) and should be able to swim the length of a 25-meter pool without assistance (touching the bottom of the pool, grabbing the lane rope or wall multiple times, etc.).
Practices for the Blue Crabs will begin on Tuesday, May 27.
If your swimmer is 8 or under and you are unsure if they are able to swim the length of the pool, we would recommend that you register them as a Mini Crab. The coaches will then evaluate their current skill level and place them with either the Mini Crabs or the Blue Crabs based on their proficiency with the intention of moving them to the Blue Crabs as their swimming skills develop over the course of the season.
What are the requirements to be a Mini Crabs swimmer?
To be a Mini Crab a swimmer should be (1) between the ages of 4 and 8 as of June 1, 2025, and have enough swimming experience to be (2) willing and able to enter the pool independently, and (3) are considered safe when unsupervised in a pool with a depth of 3 feet.
The coaches have final say in determining whether or not your swimmer meets the requirements to join the Mini Crabs. Our priority is that each swimmer is given the attention and instruction they need while maintaining a safe and fun practice environment. If it is determined that your child is not ready for the Mini Crabs, then your registration will be refunded less a $10 processing fee.
If your child does not meet any of the above criteria, basic swim lessons are recommended. Please note that the swim team does not provide swim lessons on an individual basis, but intends to see our youngest swimmers develop their swimming skills in a group context where they become proficient as swimmers.
If your child is 8 and under and is not a returning swimmer and you are unsure if they can swim across a 25-meter pool without assistance, we recommend that you register your child for the Mini Crabs. When they are ready, they will be moved up to the Blue Crabs.
Practices for the Mini Crabs will begin on Monday, June 9, and will conclude on Friday, July 18.
